HIPPI 800 and 1600 Serial Specification
(HIPPI-Serial)
ISO/IEC 11518-9:199x is the ISO version.
Status as of February 4, 1999 -
HIPPI-Serial Rev 2.6 has been approved as American National Standard X3.300-1997. The published document has the same technical content as HIPPI-Serial Rev 2.7. The Technical Editor responsibilities passed from Don Tolmie to Roger Ronald. An ISO version is being processed in the ISO Fast Track procedure as a draft International Standard (DIS).
HIPPI-Serial is based on the original Serial-HIPPI document produced by an ad-hoc group outside the standards arena. Marty Halvorson of DEC chaired the ad-hoc group, and Bill McFarland of Hewlett-Packard was the Technical Editor. Conformant products have been out for several years, and HIPPI-Serial is an attempt to polish up the specification, legitimize existing products, and bring all of the HIPPI specifications under one umbrella.
Document Title -
High-Performance Parallel Interface - Serial Specification (HIPPI-Serial)
Abstract -
This standard specifies a physical-level interface for transmitting digital data at 800 Mbit/s or 1600 Mbit/s serially over fiber-optic cables across distances of up to 10 km. The signalling sequences and protocol used are compatible with HIPPI-PH, ANSI X3.183-1991, which is limited to 25 m distances. HIPPI-Serial may be integrated as a host's native interface, or used as an external extender for HIPPI-PH ports.
